Kurt Rohrs
for CUSD

Kurt Rohrs has been a Chandler resident since 1995. He is a dedicated parent to his three children who have all been educated in the Chandler School District and went on to earn University degrees.

 

He is finishing his first term on the Chandler Unified School Board. He has been unafraid to ask tough questions and hold the District Administration accountable for their actvities.

Kurt has a passion for quality education and achievement. He has pushed hard for improvements in Reading and Math proficiency, especially for underserved students who have traditionally struggled with the academic process, leaving them with reduced prospects for a successful life as adults.

​

He has been instrumental in driving the Career Pathways project for students to engage early in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs to develop the practical skills necessary for employment. 

​

Kurt has also led the District to start treating Parents as customers, rather than adversaries, in order to earn their business. He feels that the District should not be competing with Parents as to how best to raise their children and insists that Parental consent is required for the District to engage in any non-academic counseling issues. 

​

Kurt has pushed to develop the District as the "Best Choice" among the many educational options available for Parents and their children. CUSD now offers Traditional Academy schools, Gifted Academies, College Prep Academies, STEM Academies, and Career Pathway Programs in order to make our District the best choice for Parents and their Children.

 

He previoulsy worked with the District on their Citizen’s Budget Committee for fifteen years serving as Chairperson on two occasions. Kurt is a strong supporter of extracurricular activities for kids as the best way to address their social development and has worked extensively coaching after-school sports for kids as he raised his own children. He has also volunteered with ICAN to help kids with their homework after school and is a certified Substitute Teacher that worked regularly in CUSD schools.

Kurt believes that all District efforts should be focused directly on one fundamental activity ... Teachers teaching students. Every other effort should effectively be in support of that activity. He understands that Teachers are here because they love to teach. It is their passion and their craft.

Kurt is also active on the Public Policy Committee of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce and interacts regularly with civic leaders in the City of  Chandler, Maricopa County, and throughout the state of Arizona. He is also a member of the Sun Lakes Rotary Club that strongly supports CUSD and participates in the Club's effort to distribute dictionaries to every third-grader in the District. 

 

Kurt's educational background is a graduate degree in Chemistry and an MBA in Finance. He spent eighteen years as a Corporate Executive in the High Tech industry and traveled extensively around the world working closely with people of many cultures. He currently runs his own small business as a Certified Financial Planner and Professional Financial Advisor.
